Salute The Morn
Trad & K. Rusby PRS/MCPS
People awake salute the happy morn
Where on a saviour of mankind was born
And rise to adore the mystery of love
Which hosts of angels chanted from above
With them the joyful tidings first begun
Of kings and shepherds and of Mary’s son.
Then to the watchful shepherds it was told
Who heard the angelic herald’s voice behold
I bring good tidings of a baby’s birth
To you and all the nations upon earth
This day the story has only just begun
Of kings and shepherds and of Mary’s son.
He spake and straightway the celestial choir
In hymns of joy unknown before conspire
Praises of redeeming love they sang
And earth’s whole orb with hallelujahs rang
Peace on the earth is what the angels sung
For kings and shepherds and of Mary’s son.
So people awake salute the happy morn
Where on a saviour of mankind was born
And rise to adore the mystery of love
Which hosts of angels chanted from above
With them the joyful tidings first begun
Of kings and shepherds and of Mary’s son
Of kings and shepherds and of Mary’s son
Of kings and shepherds and of Mary’s son

Christmas is Merry

Christmas Is Merry
Trad & K. Rusby PRS/MCPS
Oh Christmas is merry a day of delight,
With leaf and red berry the holly is bright
The sweet bells are ringing
The churches are gay
And all men are singing upon this birthday
Upon this birthday.
He came as a stranger when winter was wild
Was born in a manger of Mary so mild
And Joseph is keeping a watch by his head
Where baby is sleeping on straw for his bed
On straw for his bed.
There sounds a glad story the news of
his birth
The sound full of glory of peace upon earth
They came to adore him the shepherds
and kings
They lay down before him their fair offerings
Their fair offerings.
At midnight and morning and daytime
come we
All evil a scorning the baby to see
Our anthems are sounding our songs we
will sing
The baby surrounding the bells they will ring
The bells they will ring.
The midnight is lightened the morning
is clear
The daytime is brightened when he
draweth near
And voices are telling the same story still
Of peace that is dwelling with men of
good will
With men of good will.
Oh Christmas is merry the reason we tell
With leaf and red berry with voice and
with bell
The babe of the manger, depends to his throne
No longer a stranger, we all journey home
We all journey home.

The Holly King
K. Rusby PRS/MCPS
All hail he comes
The Holly King he comes
He’s dressed all in green array
And the icy wind he shuns.
All hail he comes
The Winter King he comes
He’s crowned in verdant splendour
And he’s seen a million suns.
Chorus
And he’ll sing and he’ll stand
’Til his queen comes across the land
And the frost she’ll bring
To the Holly King.
When the sun sinks low
The Summer King he knows
That winter’s grip is tightening
And it’s time for his overthrow.
And then winter wakes
Through hedge field and forrest lakes
The birds in silent reverence
And for his icy queen he wakes.
Chorus
No sword, but staff
He walks his winter path
And surveys his land before him
In summer’s aftermath.
Then she appears with grace
She lifts her frozen face
In eternal, blissful harmony
It’s winter’s cold embrace.
Chorus
All hail he comes
The Holly King he comes
Now nature she can rest a while
Now winter has begun.
And they’ll sing and they’ll stand
Now his queen’s come across the land
And the frost she’ll bring
To the Holly King
The Holly King
The Holly King.

Hippo for Christmas
John Rox
I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
I don’t want a doll, no dinky tinker toy
I want a hippopotamus to play with
and enjoy.
I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
I don’t think Santa Clause will mind do you
He won’t have to use our dirty chimney flue
Just bring it through the from door that’s
the easy thing to do.
I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
No crocodiles or rhinoceroses
I only like hippopotamuses
And hippopotamuses like me too.
Mum says a hippo would eat me up,
but then
Teacher says the hippo is a vegetarian.
Theres lots of room for him in our two
car garage
I’d feed him there and wash him there and
give him a massage.
I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
I don’t want a doll, no dinky tinker toy
I want a hippopotamus to play with
and enjoy.
I can see me now on Christmas morning
Creeping down the stairs,
Oh what joy and what delight
When I open up my eyes
To see a hippo hero standing there.
I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
No crocodiles or rhinoceroseses
I only like hippopotamuseses
And hippopotamuses like me too.
Hippopotamuses not rhinoceroses
Hippopotamuses like me too

While Shepherds Watched 6
Trad & K. Rusby
PRS/MCPS
While shepherds watched their f
locks by night
All seated on the ground
All seated on the ground
The angel of the lord came down
And glory shone around
And glory shone around
And glory shone around
And glory shone around.
Fear not said he for mighty dread
Had seized their troubled minds
Had seized their troubled minds
Glad tidings of great joy I bring
To you and all mankind
To you and all mankind
To you and all mankind
To you and all mankind.
To you in David’s town this day
Is born of David’s line
Is born of David’s line
A saviour who is Christ the Lord
This shall be the sign
This shall be the sign
This shall be the sign
And this shall be the sign.
All glory be to God on high
And to the earth be peace
To the earth be peace
Goodwill hence forth from heaven to men
Begin and never cease
Begin and never cease
Begin and never cease
Begin and never cease.
While shepherds watched their flocks by
night
All seated on the ground
All seated on the ground
The angel of the Lord came down
And glory shone around
And glory shone around
And glory shone around
And glory shone around.

The Mistletoe Bough

The Mistletoe Bough
Thomas Haynes Bayly - Arr K. Rusby & D. O’Kane PRS/MCPS
The mistletoe hung in the old castle hall
The holly branch shone on the old oak wall
The Barron’s retainers were blithe and
were gay
A keeping their Christmas holiday
The Barron beheld with a father’s pride
His beautiful child, young Lovell’s bride
She with the bright eyes was destined to be
The star of the goodly company.
Chorus
Oh the mistletoe bough
Oh the mistletoe bough.
I’m weary of dancing, of dancing she cried
Here tarry a moment, I’ll hide I’ll hide
And Lovell be sure you’re the first one
to trace
The clue to my secret hiding place
Away then she ran and their friends all began
Each tower to search and each stairway
to scan
Lovell he cried “oh where does thou hide
I’m lonely without you my own dear bride.”
Chorus
They searched all the night and they
searched the next day
They searched all around ’til a week
went away
The highest and lowest the lonesomest spot
Young Lovell sought wildly but found her not
And as years went by so did grief then at last
Now told as a sorrowful tale long past
When Lovell appears all the children they cry
“See the old man weeps for his fairy bride.”
Chorus
At length an old chest that had long been
lain hid
Was found in the castle, they raised up
the lid
A skeleton form lay a mouldering there
In a bridal wreath of a lady so fair
Oh sad was her fate that in playfullest jest
She hid from her lord in an old chest
That closed with a spring and that new
bridal bloom
Lay withering there in a lonely tomb.
Chorus

Bleak Midwinter (Yorkshire)
Words Christina Rossetti Tune
Gustav Holst Arr K. Rusby & D. O’Kane
PRS/MCPS
In the bleak midwinter frosty winds made moan
Earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone
Snow had fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow
In the bleak midwinter long ago.
Enough for him whom cherubim worship day and night
A manger in a stable and stars that shine so bright
Enough for him whom angles fall down before
The ox and ass and camel the baby all adore.
Angels and archangels may have gathered there
Cherubim and seraphim filled up the air
But his mother only in her maiden bliss
Worshiped the beloved with a perfect kiss.
Oh what can I give him poor as I am
If I were a shepherd I would give a lamb
If I were a wise man I would do my part
Yet what I can I give him, I give him my heart.

Celestial Hearts
Trad & K. Rusby PRS/MCPS
Come let us all rejoice, to see this happy morn
We’ll tune our hearts and raise our voice
We’ll tune our hearts and raise our voice
Tune our hearts and raise our voice
Upon this Christmas morn
Upon this Christmas morn.
Go humble swain said he, to David’s city fly
A promised infant born today
A promised infant born today
A promised infant born today
Does in a manger lie
Does in a manger lie.
Now angels all on high sing heavenl peace on earth
Goodwill to men and angel’s joy
Goodwill to men and angel’s joy
Goodwill to men and angel’s joy
Resound across the earth
Resound across the earth.
With looks and hearts serene go see the babe your king
A host of angels then was seen
A host of angels then was seen
A host of angels the was seen
The shepherds heard them sing
The shepherds heard them sing...

I Am Christmas
05:18
|
|||
I Am Christmas
Bill Meek & John Conolly
I will sew a braid of gold
On grey December’s ragged sleeve
And teach the crabbed and jaded soul
How to give, how to receive
The rooms are thick with magic now
The tree its soft light throwing
The mistletoe, the holly bough
My age old spell bestowing.
Chorus
I am warmth and I am light
And I am kith and kin
A candle in your darkest night
I am Christmas let me in
I am Christmas let me in.
For I bring stories by the hearth
Delight in half forgotten names
And apple logs on fragrant fires
With flickering faces in the flames
And as the year draws in its days
And tired leaves are falling
I can brighten darkened ways
Where dusk is early calling.
Chorus
I can take the weary miles
And weave a carpet to your door
And guide the dusty wanderer home
Safely to your side once more
And I can cheer the bitter days
With tunes to set you singing
My standard in your heart I’ll raise
With joy and comfort bringing.
I bring churches all aglow
And carols on the midnight air
And coloured windows streaked with snow
That glid the congregation there
For young and old will join sing
To mark the long year’s turning
From one glad candle that I bring
Ten thousand more are burning.
Chorus

B.B.B.B
K. Rusby PRS/MCPS
Beryl Delaney was zany and fun
Her husky led sleigh ride had not long begun
When the ropes became tangled she looked on in fear
As the roundabout at Stairfoot was about to appear
But here’s Bill… here’s Bill… here’s Bill, Bill
He’s been round and again
“Oh bloomin’ eck” said Beryl would you just choose a lane.
Chorus
Big Brave Bill from Barnsley he came
Big Brave Bill from the mine
Big Brave Bill you’ll remember his name
The hero who sups up his tea all the time
Here now our hero began to turn green
Tempers were flaring, rude gestures were seen
So with huskies still tangled and excellent skill
She pulled up beside him and saved Big Brave Bill
Here’s Beryl, Bill both with eyes burning bright
The huskies agreed it was love at first sight.
Chorus
The bells of St Mary’s they chimed and they rung
And soon they were blessed with a daughter and son
They take after dad do Belinda and Bob
They go after baddies who hurt, steal and rob
So here’s Bill, Beryl, Belinda and Bob
And with huskies to boot they make such a fine mob.
Chorus
Big Brave Bill’s mob from Barnsley they came
Big Brave Bill’s mob, one of a kind
Big Brave Bill’s mob you’ll remember they names
The heroes who think Yorkshire
The heroes who love Yorkshire
The heroes who drink Yorkshire Tea all the time.
